Brenndan!

This month has been the CANADIAN INVASION at chez spranger! I have to thank my lovely flatmates for being so welcoming... Brenndan and I haven't seen eachother for 5 years but it was as if neither of us had aged a day in the time past. I swear he looked the exact same!! Unfortunatly timing was off and I had to work quite a bit, not to mention the single coming out.... We did get to spend some quality time though and I have the pictures to prove it!!

ohmygod!!

as of this moment in time JJ72 have a top 40 single in the UK!!!!!!!! yay!! my first EVER!!!

deuce bigalow

I was lucky enough to meet Rob Schneider last night... I've never met a comedian before. I had expected that such a meeting would involve some serious laughter and jokes a-plenty. The reality was far different. There was a certain amount of sobriety and seriousness. He seemed almost sad. It was a far cry from his Deuce Bigalow role, I liked this Rob Schneider a lot more. He was genuine and jaded and wonderful. The best part was that he was bringing his daughter on a hitch-hiking tour of Ireland! ROCK!

my band...

I came home tonight with every intention of getting straight into bed. I had to make a wee cd for Mark first though... One thing led to another and I found myself listening to song after song watching the minuutes tick by. Then a song called Half Three (off the 2nd Jj72 album ) came on and something turned over in my head. It's such a brilliant song. It's the kind of song you'd want someone to write about you, and it's the kind of song that makes you want to play music in front of millions of people really really loud. It could make you cry and laugh then cry again. I've been so worried about our upcoming single, and about my job and loads of other things, and in the worry I've forgotten that there are bucket loads of things to be happy about. I guess it's easy to wallow, and tougher to snap out of it. I should really be excited, on monday our first proper single comes out in the UK. That's BIG!! VERY BIG. The song is Coming Home and I love it. It's grand and powerful but pretty and poetic at the same time. It's beautiful. (plus the bass line kicks some major ass) Now- SLEEP!!

the single.....

No.3

I had to get a friend for No.2... she looked quite desolate and dreary. I've been feeling a bit blue lately and I need the fish in my life to be chipper. I've noticed a definate improvement in the atmosphere in the fishbowl since this afternoon.... No.2 initially avoided No.3 like the plague, but after the first few hours, I'd left the room and there was some fishy cuddling going on (see exhibit A)! They're so sweet together, it's almost heartbreaking. ( i hope they're not being sexy....)

Canada

I'm terribly homesick.. I left Mike at the airport today and all I wanted was to get on a plane. I miss Brampton (with all it's faults) and I miss Toronto. I miss obnoxious good service in restaurants. I miss horribly hot summers and the nastiest winters of all time. I miss Dad and Grandma and Grandpa and Jess and Robin and Freedom and Gimpy... I miss it all. I'm trying to book a ticket home... Watch this space I'll see Y'all sonn Ya Hear?

No. 2

I'm so sad that I don't have a photo of No.1... She didn't live long but I'm sure her existance was full and blooming. Myself and No.2 have come out the other end stronger. I just want to be sure she's happy and well.

radio tour....

Hello, the band are on a regional radio tour around the UK this week. It's been fun but has been ALOT of travelling. We started in Glasgow and are going as far as Brighton, Manchester, Cardiff.... YIKES!!
For Dad, yesterday we were in Newcastle and saw the TYNE bridge, quite a famous bridge (I know how you love them!) Apparently it was the first of its kind and the Tower Bridge in Sydney was modelled after it...
We also drove by the Angel in the North which didn't turn out well in the photograph but reeally was quite impressive....

friends....

My life has been full, but my stay in places has always been fugacious... thus I am constantly syaing goodbye to people. I am lucky though to have met an immesuurable amount of fantastic people along the way. In the last week I have had to say goodbye to two wonderful people at Cafe Mao. More than most places, this restaurant has a constantly changing roster of people who come and go too quickly. Frienships are formed and disolved like wildfire. I suppose that it's the nature of the beast. Here is a picture of my friend Duje who is moving back to Croatia.... I'll find a picture of Fran who is leaving as well. He's moving home to Spain at the end of next week. They are both sweethearts and I'm going to miss them.

Happy birthday Mom!!

I love these photo's of my Mom. I expecially like Mom's wedding afro and Dad's killer tash.

Monday morning blues.....

It's been a long week. Fun, but exhausting!! I just brought Mike to the bus station where he's beginning his cross country super-adventure in search of cliffs, valleys and general tom-foolery. Good luck Mike! I don't envy his journey. I'm not a fan of busses in general and just thinking about his next few hours made me feel a bit queasy!! That and the cocktails last night....

Last night was bananas. We went to the Bia Bar for the sunday roast and the last night of the roof garden. I cannot think of anything worse than drunk people and free food. It's a lethal combination. We stayed for about 4 minutes (after noticing that just about everyone worth avoiding in Dublin was present) then headed for the reletive safety of Mao for some blueberry cocktails. Elle Malloy was out. She's great fun but really busy so we never get to hang out.

The highlight was a kung-fu showdown that involved a power mad bouncer and a drunk drunk!! It was quite a spectacle. Luckily I had my camera....

woody!!

Look, it's Woody's cousin in Prague.... I saw her and I felt a wee pang in my heart. Oh Woody, there was no van finer.
a haiku...
van of blue and knot
we fought the wars, but were beaten
I miss you old boy

i love these photos!!

The Horse Show!!

Today Corina, Mike and myself went to the Dublin Horse Show in the RDS.

I think the name "horse show" was a bit of a stretch. I would re-name it, "lots of shopping, sweets and wine with an area you have to pay EXTRA to get into in order to see any horses" Not as catchy, but accurate. I'm not complaining though. I've been known to sample sweets, AND wine at one time or another!
I'm proud to reveal here (mostly for the benefit of my lovely sis) that I'm recovered of my (somewhat irrational) fear of horses. I quite like them now. I got to touch a pretty grey horses nose and it was so soft, like really fine velvet. We also got to pat some rather unfriendly goats. Poor little devils, being harrassed by mental children all day!!

horse show highlight!!

Here's myself, Mike and my little buddy, SPONGEBOB. Witness the sheer glee!!

the tour....

I'm trying to clean up my laptop because she's gotten very lazy and sluggish! I think she's a bit full! I've found some photos from the last couple of tours that I'd like to put up, one of the bus, a few of the band and one of the view I had backstage at Megadeath to make all you rockers out there jealous!!
