dream last night....

I had a dream that we had to come up with new names for socks.
my idea?
feet sweaters.
paddy's idea?
tootsie tarps.
weird.

happy birthday mel.

anyone who has a themed birthday party (besides me of course) deserves a plague of nonsense to befall them, so it was with this in mind that we donned our Mime costumes for Mel's "M" party last night. nobody. I mean nobody, likes mimes and we were no exception. we were truly terrifying in our mimey-ness.
the quote of the nite happened late in the evening when we met an un-named lady (dressed appropriately as a mental patient) who claimed that A POLITICIAN THREW A ROCK AT HER BREAST.
What??

my new surfboard!!! smashface-a-go-go!!!

The 7'6 Surf Betty is a nicely balanced, wonderfully styled tri-fin egg that performs like a gem. Perfect as mini longboard for young girls or a mid-sized funboard for advanced Betty's, it continues to provide great fun for all who ride it. Large enough to learn on and keep you surfing on small days, and small enough to perform when the surf jump's up, this surfboard is ideal for the recreational or weekend surfer who just wants to have fun. Girls love the tropical hibiscus graphic - no boys allowed.

DA BOSS!!

I tried to surprise Paddy with tickets to see Bruce Springsteen for his birthday, TRIED being the operative word. In a moment of complete Sarah-ness I blew it big time though.
I suppose subtlety was never my stong suit.
It was ok though... we made plans. Fancy dress was essential, the theme being office-party-rejects. I got my fanciest of all fancy dresses. (Lacy and fab with my check Van's as the ultimate accessory) Paddy donned his tux, and his runners, askew at best. With mischief in our eyes we set out, rocked Boss style, and were in bed my midnight. Phew.

doesn't it look like there's a thousand people on stage? there were.

haha silliness.

(ohmygod this guy is SO misunderstood)

It's rainy. I need funny.

Christmas is coming

It certainly feels like it today. What a crap day. It's Captain Downpour out there and in a moment of sheer forsight and brilliance Paddy and I got on our bikes and proceeded to get soaked to the bone. All of the vitamin C in the world can't save me now...
I miss Canada. It doesn't rain in the winter, it snows. Nice fluffy snow, (that turns to slushy mud admittedly), but that starts as lovely floaty cottony fun. And in Canada it's proper cold, not this nonsense semi-cold-wet-dry-what-the-hell-do-I-wear-today malarky. If it's going to be cold it might as well freeze your ass off, and give you something real to moan about.
Having said that I haven't had a Christmas at home in years (besides my 4 day 'stopover' last year. A drive-by really at best!) I probably couldn't hack the cold anymore. I'm FREEZING TO DEATH right now and it's probably all of 8 degrees.
Actually here's the forecast.

Rain
100% chance of precipitation
57° F | 42° F
14° C | 6° C

that poor little cloud is blowing like hell.
I hope it's ok tomorrow. We're going surfing. Monday we had a great plan to get up EARLY (5am early) and go catch the push of the tide coming in in Wicklow. Needless to say 5 am rolled around and cozy bed seemed somehow more appealing than the raw wintery sea in clothed in darkness. Thursday we will be brave. 8am seems easier anyway.

Karslruhe

Gothtastic gig last night in Karlsruhe in a venue that was underground. Freaky stuff. We had to back the van into a tunnel into the center of the earth (almost) then set up with trams rumbling overhead. We were playing with Zeraphine (last night and again tonight....)

Honorable mentions go to the terrifying horse statue in the nearby park. Three hooved feet, gangsta gold chompers and a menacing glare. Seriously scary statue action!!
And whoever bought me the giantest whiskey of all time, thanks!!

blogtastic

so yes I've been updating my blog alot lately but it's only due to the plethora of waiting time I've had as of late in airport lobbys etc. I've just waited 2 hours to take a bus somewhere I can't even begin to pronounce, only to be told (via furious hand gestures and grunt-like grunting) that NOT ONLY does the bus not go there, but NO BUS from Frankfurt Hahn goes there. Brilliant. Now what?? I'm hoping my band will collect me. They're consulting their satellite navigation system, and I'm waiting. Time for German white wine No.2. It's allowed. I'm in an airport. I've also had my second pretzel. I LOVE pretzels. Salty shapely snacks.
Tonight we're playing somewhere. It's gonna be great. And another gig tomorrow then back home, to the real world.

UnaRocks!!

This woman is seriously funny (for a Gerrrl)
Many congrats for the comedy kickass last nite. Two-time comedy stand up victor and vanquisher of all things Bishop.

Phone photos...

I took these ages ago of Dun Laoghaire Pier. I love the camera on my phone... And I love Dun Laoghaire pier!!

Moth Complex

Please please please check out this band. For lack of a better phrase (and brain cells at this ungodly hour of the morning!!) THEY ROCK. Seriously. It was great fun touring with them, a real treat.

(random fun for your visual enjoyment.)

Beautiful

there are some nights that are so full of expectation and one can scarcely believe the beauty that surrounds. I took these on the pier Monday night, with a full heart and a bright future...

Best. Birthday. EVAH!!

So the downside was turning 30.
BUT
the upsides were a-plenty.
The highlights were (in no particular order...)
1. Hamburg! Knust club with Lluther and Moth Complex supporting. I've never played before on my birthday and it was GREAT fun!! Marcel from Die Krupps was in fantastic form and rocked it as he does best. The gig was filmed for TV and the footage looks, and sounds great. All in all a fantastic gig. It's such a treat when everything works well, it must've been my birthday blessing... (Berlin was a completely different box of frogs but that story is for another day...)

2. New amp and Birthday Dress!! Both rocked in completely different ways.

3. (the actual numero-uno-best-birthday-surprise EVER!)
Anyone who has had the misfortune to hear me shite on about my ideal scenario knows full well that all I've ever really wanted in life is to be up to my neck in a bathtub full of porridge. I love porridge and the thought of being surrounded by it, enveloped in it's oatly goodness, well I just can't think of ANYTHING more wonderful! I've been talking about it, literally, for years AND my gorgeous Paddy made it happen!!
It was better than I could've even imagined, He had candles, and blueberries sprinkled on top. It was warm and gooey and when submerged, it was hard to tell where our bodies ended and the porridge began. It was surreal and sublime and was over far too soon.

Before you try this at home there are a few things you should know....
1. It takes 30 kilos of porridge to fill a bathtub.
2. The hot water tap (if BURNING hot like our shower is) is sufficient to cook a bathtub full of porridge.
3. The top layer of oats are deceptively inviting. Underneath lies a magma-style heat of proportions unimaginable. When you put your poor tootsies in this, the porridge sticks and cooks said feet. Serious mixing is needed.
4. After your wonderful porridge bath (which by-the-way is excellent for your skin, hair and general wellbeing) you are left with a bathtub FULL OF PORRIDGE.
now what??
This is where it got messy and almost terrifying. The porridge gets into everything. Everywhere. Thank goodness for our "InSinkErator". After several trips with binbags, pots, shopping bags and anything else capable of transporting porridge we were clean(ish) and ready for...

5. We Are Scientists. Fun gig, Not as great as I expected but good all the same. Honorable mentions go to the opening track (Phil Collins - against all odds) and the closing track - an acapella version of Boyz II Men End of the Road. Good stuff. There were a few moments of "oh this is my favorite song" "oh no THIS is my favorite song" "oh no actually THIS one really is truly my favorite favorite song" "oh hang on..."

Also thanks to Una for (onceagain) making the evening decidedly more fun and all at the same time more dangerous. I heart Una.
And Fin for guestlisty goodness.
And Paddy for donuty greasefest. yum.

6. My kick ass new bike!! (AKA Get-off-the-road-she's-got-wheels) Paddy AGAIN came through with an amazing surprise. There's a basket, a bell and a cool bookrack. She's shiny and silver and I've named her the The Silver Invader, or Porridge for short.

7. The Hotel Village, somethingorotherStrasse - Hamburg.
mirrors on the ceiling and cheap champagne on ice. nuff said.
