death cab for cutie
it's been a long time since a band made me cry. It's my gauge for how much I love a band. Seriously. Most of my all time favorite songs involve a tear or two. So a tribute to my new fave tear jerkers. Death Cab..... What a name, what a band....
my favorite Sugababes lyric.
my sexy ass has got you in a new dimension

my favorite cake....
So the birthday is looming and the memories are flooding back. Another year, another birthday, another wonderful cake! I remember a few years of Halloween inspired gateaux's. A black cat, a pumpkin and maybe a ghost once. Then I went through a phase of Black Forest Cakes. YUM (remember the black forest card Jess?). But my favorite was for my 21st birthday. Mom made it and it was super.
ode to the cottage...
It's literally been years since I was at the cottage. It's a few hours north of Toronto and the whole area is fairly untouched by nasty neon, fast food and such. It's so peaceful and clean. I miss it terribly. So, a photographic ode to one of my favorite places in the world...

no.2 and no.3
Dad was asking after the fish last night. They've gotten really big, perhaps it's the new fish food, or perhaps it's something far more sinister... My suspicions were aroused initially when Una's only postcard from Cyprus was for the pair of them. And recently I've seen them telling secrets. They're planning something, I'm just not sure what yet.... watch this space!

music music music
Typical that I would spend the majority of my money on music- but I'm a self confessed download addict! ( legal of course...)
My most recent aquisitions, Mick Ronson (sexy or what!), David Gray, Status Quo ( I'm new to the magic of the Quo), The Postal Service (yay) and Puressence. (haven't listened yet but it comes highly recommended....)
I also recently downloaded all of my favorite Queen songs for the nostalgia stakes.
God bless music

THANKSGIVING!!
I'm sad that I was away again for Thanksgiving weekend. It's definitely one of my favorite holidays, behind Halloween of course. Our typical Thanksgiving weekend would involve a trip up to the cottage (usually the last of the year), a massive bonfire, some safe fun with shotguns (and skeets who usually fared well as we're typically quite crap shots!), then ridiculous amounts of food. I have fond memories of being relegated to the kitchen to eat with the other 'kids' resulting in food fights and general messiness. Then maybe a game of 'pitch dark hide-and-seek'. Terrifying really.
I miss it.
Here's a few photos to get you into the mood.
This year was a bit different. Myself and my two fellow Canucks waxed poetic about the amazing dinner we were going to have. In reality you'd be hard pressed to find a whole turkey at the last minute in Ireland. Then we thought we might buy all of the turkey parts we could find and have a pseudo frankenstein style affair. That idea was over the first whiskey. By the third Elephant and Castle chicken wings were close enough to a traditional turkey dinner for us. It was a nice meal though, and halfway through the burgers and wings we realized that Thanksgiving is more about being with your family and friends than what's going into your tummy.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!

The ZOOOOOOOO!!!
Mark and I went to the zoo today! It was such fun... like being a kid again. I've always had mixed feelings about zoos in general. I know that in recent years they've done extensive research about captive habitat to improve the happiness and wellbeing of the animals in captivity. Even so it's still hard to see some animals in cages, especially the ones that are meant to be running and hunting. I liked this zoo though, the animals were all happy and quite chatty. Here are some of our new friends.
